Hunting Texas Wildflowers 2025

Hunting Texas Wildflowers 2024

This year I am publishing my Hunting Texas Wildflowers book in print and eBook editions. Both editions feature four regions (Brenham, Ennis, Texas Hill Country, and South Central). Both editions outline nine “home base” cities from which you can take day trips, visit parks and other interesting stops, and travel nearby wildflower routes. I have traveled each route in the past 25 years, and they are some of the top routes in the four regions. The nine home base cities are:

  • Austin
  • Brenham
  • Burnet (includes Marble Falls)
  • Ennis (includes locations in the DFW area)
  • Fredericksburg
  • Johnson City
  • Llano
  • Mason
  • San Antonio

Other locations nearby to the above nine cities in each region are also included such as Cuero, Lockhart, and Kerrville.

*NEW* Maps of my favorite locations have been added to the 2025 editions. When I have limited time to explore, I focused on certain locations as they tend to be more consistent year after year. You now will know my favorite locations to help you focus your efforts.

Links to county maps for each of the nine potential home bases are included. You can download and print out the maps you need for your wildflower adventures. When I started my wildflower journey, I carried a bag of printed country maps. These were essential in helping me find some of those less traveled roads. County maps can also show some interesting locations. A link on how to use Google Maps offline with GPS is provided.

Forty parks and stops are listed where you can find wildflowers, enjoy a fun experience, or grab a bite to eat. Included are a few old-style country stores, wineries, and even a cemetery that once was covered in bluebonnets.

Outlined are thirty daytrips that will take you through areas that have previously yielded spectacular wildflower displays.

Thirty routes are detailed. These routes have consistently produced excellent views of wildflowers.

Also included are sections on:

Growing Wildflowers: Tips on how to grow wildflowers.

Recipe for a Great Season: What are the factors that come together to produce an above average wildflower season?

Wildflower Photography Tips: These are the settings and the process that I follow to help me photograph wildflowers.

References: These are sources that helped me learn more about the history of wildflowers in Texas and find the best locations where they might produce beautiful displays.

Resources: Links to additional resources to help you learn about wildflowers.

*NOT included in the 2025 Edition* The sample route photos and photos of common wildflowers have been removed to reduce the size of the file and reduce the cost of the print edition. You can view sample route photos in my galleries at: https://pbase.com/richo/txwildflowers. I have several articles on the most common wildflowers in Texas posted on my website at: https://www.wildflowerhaven.com/Articles .

The 2024 eBook edition received five reviews on Amazon all five stars. Here are two.

Five Stars: “This book really is a must read if you plan on getting the most out a trip to see the Texas Wildflowers. I'm a native Texan, however not that familiar with the Hill Country region, which is vast. Having the information the author has compiled helped me find the best areas to see the beauty of Texas Wildflowers. Instead of wandering around hoping to see some, we were able to plan a bit in advance and maximize our time. Well worth the reasonable price!”

Five Stars: “The detail, thought, & care that went into this project is impressive. Many thanks to Rich and his friends that contributed - your respect and reverence for wildflowers, nature, and wildlife is evident in this labor of love.
Well done!”
